Hmmmm... well I have spent two days trying to create communities and I am less than pleased. I started out with the bottom right picture... the middle house is me and the little one on my right is Ben. The one to the left is Hannah, she is 17 and is very eager to create her own community, hence her being slightly separated. The blue below is like the blood that connects us... type thing.
So then I did the next one... bottom left, which is my Mum and Dad, flowers because they are both have green thumbs. It is night time in their world at the moment {I just wanted to try the pretty black paper whose patterns I thought looked like constellations}.
After these two small little communities I decided to have a go at a bigger one... well, yeah it is a bit of a mish mash. There are parts that I don't really like and parts that I like even less. So I feel a little disappointed that they haven't really turned out the way I had hoped, and in saying this I am not exactly sure how I imagined them turning out. I am coming to the conclusion that it takes a while to create a community, these things just don't happen overnight.

Communities usually have a central focus, which could be the bottom right picture, then all your links coming off it
Actually I think the top one, the big one, is kinda cool! Maybe it needs just a little something in the big green square on the left (don't ask me what), to even things out, but other than that I really like it.
I love the metaphor that is emerging about communities ... and the houses of course
i love the process you are sharing here of community coming together...& it's creating a rich & deeply interesting picture...
maybe it's no coincidence that there are blooms of daises directly below...(what life wouldn't want to visit here?!)

hi kaherine,
i haven't been here in a bit but i must say i LOVE these communities (but you know i have a thing for houses)!
sometimes i find stepping away from a piece for a few days helpful...good luck with these : )
I love this idea and seeing your process. I love your two bottom ones~ I know what its like~ Keep playing and pushing I love the metaphor! ~Theresa
Two bottom ones particularly grab my attention. Fascinating to read your inspiration behind the piece(s)too :)
Well I love them but especially the bottom ones. They are fab and after reading their stories, I love them more.
I understand what it feels like to be a bit disappointed despite the best inspiration, but I (and clearly not just me) LOVE these! I specially love the teeny boat in the big one! Haven't painted in days but feeling quite inspired right now!
I love the way these have turned out. Keep processing! I love the shape of the bottom two, and that they all make one piece. :) Beautiful!! Love the colours...
Love your communities...and the inspiration behind them... they will fit together... they're family...
Well, they look great to me, but I totally understand the feeling of not being "quite right" or living up to your expectation. I usually just keep playing around, but then I'm always afraid I'll go "too far" and ruin it. All part of the process! It's just so great we can share ideas on all of this.
Oh, yea, pushing daisies... the redhead is now Molly's Mom on Mike and Molly. Love her and also the pothead sister!
I just love your communities Katherine! We are so hard on ourselves sometimes, but believe us they are wonderful! I love pushing daisies too! I've been watching it on Netflix, great characters.
Much Love,
Jenny
