New Zealand silver fern (koru)It has inspired me to add some of this beautiful flora and fauna around me to my work. The koru, which is often used in Māori art as a symbol of creation, it is based on the shape of an unfurling fern frond. Its circular shape conveys the idea of constant movement, and its inward coil suggests a return to the point of origin. The koru symbolizes the way in which life both changes and stays the same.
I have had a lot of comments in the past that my work has a northern hemisphere 'feel' to it. Which I always thought was kind of cool since I have never been further north then the top of New Zealand... but now I feel I want people to know where I come from, know who I am.
I am excited about the idea of giving my work and girls a sense of belonging... my brain is starting to work overtime and now I have a headache.

Hi Katherine...I loved your last post. Today's post also hits home and I appreciate your ability to verbalize the joys of choosing to create things and the difficulties of putting oneself out there....
Bugs, how delicious and plants of the native bush. certainly an interesting concept to be placed in our native environment rather than in the land of our ancestors before they migrated. moving from past lives into the present......hmmmmm.....and a headache...I'm not surprised i think that is a lot of thinking in a short time....impressive...
